We are delighted to share the incredible journey of 2 of our South Shields Academy academy players Louis Burns and Jamie Storey who recently represented England Colleges in a prestigious tournament held in Italy. They had the exciting opportunity to compete against teams from San Marino, the USA, Wales, and, of course, the host nation, Italy.
The hard work and dedication of these talented lads shone through as they progressed to the final! Even though they narrowly lost to Italy, their performance throughout the tournament was excellent. It was a fantastic experience that they will cherish for years to come.
Both players have been enjoying outstanding seasons with our academy sides, showcasing their skills and commitment week in and week out. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements, both on and off the pitch.
In an exciting tournament that showcased exceptional talent and teamwork, Louis emerged as a standout player, scoring three goals and assisting an additional three during the competition. His invaluable contributions were further highlighted by his role as the team captain, leading by example both on and off the pitch.
Jamie, known for his prowess as an overlapping defender, also played a crucial role in the team's success. His ability to defend while contributing in attack exemplified the depth of skill present in the squad. Together, these players demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout.
It’s a wonderful achievement for both players to be selected for the England College squad, and I couldn't be prouder of their hard work and dedication. These opportunities not only showcase their talents but also highlight the strength of our program. Both lads have trained with our 1st team squad regularly this season and we look forward to seeing the lads continue their journey with the club.
